Fernando Bellver, journey drawings
Fernando Bellver (Madrid, 1954). This multidiscipli-nary artist has made his mark as an engraver, painter, sculptor, photographer, and illustrator, in addition to a great traveler; and following in the tradition of the scientific expeditions of the 18th and 19thcenturies, he has carefully recorded these firsthand experiences with the natural world. In addition to sketches of architecture, plants, people, objects and maps, these annotations include writings that reflect his experiences as he travels and observes, almost as if they were binnacle journals. The drawings, done on independent canvases, yet numbered, are arranged in the form of open notebooks, thereby creating a logical narration of events organized in series according to country. This exposition, as told through these journals, allows us to see the richness of the colorist world, captured with his pencils along the way.
