Fotografiar escultura
In the mid 19th century, photography began to play an important role in the cataloging of collections pertaining to the most important museums in the world. These photographic repertoires would serve, not only to keep records of the work found in these collections, but also as a vehicle for their diffusion and the renown of these archives. Photographers such as Alinari in Florence, Talbot in London and Braun in Paris, among others, were the first in this field. Starting in 1851, the Prado Museum in Madrid began to open its doors to a series of artists dedicated to translating its collections into photographic materials. Among them were Clifford, Laurent, Braun, Hauser and Menet, etc.
The images displayed in this exposition were captured in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They narrate a series of sculptures that form part of the Prado’s Sala de Las Musas (Room of The Muses).
