Enrique Flores, Argelia

During 2009 and 2010, I travelled to Algeria three times. I returned with more than a hundred different-sized watercolors and two thick notebooks full of notes, quick sketches and scraps of paper from all over. In contrary to what it might seem, this massive tome was not the result of boredom, rather the opposite. Algeria is richly stimulating and the streets, where I did all my work,  are a hotbed of activity where the hardest thing is to remain indifferent.

South of the coast there is a  vast desert that I traversed in whatever public transportation I could find. Trying to work there with little pigment and lots of water was somewhat absurd. Perhaps as absurd as chronicling a trip with watercolors in the 21st century
